Mar de Oro for Pathfinder 2e

This page collects the published Pathfinder 2e conversion notes in one place. The material has been reorganised without a general mechanical rebalance. Mar de Oro itself remains system-agnostic.

Begin with the core vessel tracks and range bands from the System-Neutral Adaptation chapter, then express them through the selected ruleset.

Conversion status

Unless a mechanic is specifically labelled as tested, everything on this page should be treated as adaptation guidance requiring calibration by the group. No copyrighted rules text is reproduced; references and original summaries only.

System-agnostic table procedures (Hard Calls at the Table and Running the Powered Arts) live in the System-Agnostic Adaptation chapter because they apply across multiple rulesets.

The Calling Table

Use the Calling table as a menu of familiar chassis for each Mar de Oro Calling. It identifies mechanical starting points rather than equivalences.

Powered Arts by Temperament

The Powered Arts by Temperament table on the D&D 5e page includes a column labelled “Pathfinder 2e starting point”. Use it as a menu of familiar chassis rather than an equivalence table. Fortera is the underlying field and disciplined practice used within the setting. References to Pathfinder classes, traditions, or resources are mechanical conversion tools rather than literal explanations of how Fortera works.

Pathfinder 2e Notes

Capability and proficiency translation

Map the Familiar / Trained / Expert / Master ladder from the System-Agnostic Adaptation chapter to Pathfinder 2e proficiency ranks of Trained, Expert, Master, and Legendary. Use the group's tier as the anchor; do not upgrade proficiency purely to fit a system-agnostic label.

Bonds and Burdens

Express Bonds through allies, contacts, organisations, and ancestry or background hooks with mechanical support. Express Burdens through recurring complications, obligations, hazards, and consequences that arise under pressure.

Fortera and Overdraw

Ordinary Fortera use remains within what local replenishment, personal discipline, and present conditions can safely support. Overdraw is a deliberate attempt to exceed that safe capacity. An Overdraw must provide an exceptional benefit while also imposing Fortera strain, local instability, or another meaningful consequence.

Represent Overdraw through an additional cost, condition, activity modification, reaction, resource expenditure, or GM-approved exception appropriate to the chosen implementation. Do not automatically create a fourth action outside Pathfinder's normal action economy. Fortera strain is not Éterlumin poisoning.

Hazards and Éterlumin

Contained, non-active Éterlumin may be transported as controlled cargo, but it continues to degrade over time. Model unstable situations as environmental hazards: pressure, calibration loss, resonance, heat, active fire, structural damage, containment failure, or rupture. Active Éterlumin is flammable, so existing fire and explosion procedures may be used when ignition or active combustion is genuinely present. Éterlumin is not inherently toxic. Simple proximity should not automatically require a Fortitude save.

Research, influence, chases, and infiltration

Pathfinder 2e's Victory Point subsystems map cleanly to the extended challenges described in the System-Neutral Adaptation chapter. Assign Victory Points to segments on the neutral clock rather than reworking the pressure structure.

Airship and faction-scale challenges

Track vessels by role and by systems (Hull, Rigging or Lift, Weapons, Crew, Command and Communication, and Éterlumin Reserve when relevant), not a single HP pool. Do not use “Engines / lift” as a universal category and do not use “Éterlumin drive” language for lift, containment, reserve, or calibration. Do not describe vessels as recharging Éterlumin systems or as rechargeable batteries.

Calibration guidance

Before publishing a Pathfinder 2e sub-mechanic as part of a Mar de Oro campaign, playtest it against the party's tier and campaign style. The material here is provided so groups can calibrate quickly, not as balanced statistics.
