Tables for Play
The table is not a crutch. It is a trigger.
These tables are not meant to replace preparation. They keep the world moving when the players turn left, ask the wrong person the right question, or spend an hour in a place you expected them to leave in five minutes.
Harbor activity (d10)
| d10 | Event |
|---|---|
| 1 | A Valdegracian convoy escort is refueling. The factor's clerk is watching it with unusual attention. |
| 2 | A fishing vessel is being inspected. The crew looks resigned. The inspector looks bored. One crate is not being opened. |
| 3 | A passenger arrives on a scheduled sea packet. She has no luggage and asks immediately for the Church mission. |
| 4 | A ship is departing an hour ahead of its listed time. The harbor master is pretending not to notice. |
| 5 | Two company factors are arguing at the ledger desk. One of them is holding a document upside down. |
| 6 | A longboat from an unlisted vessel is tied at the secondary dock. No crew visible. Oars still wet. |
| 7 | A Church Solaris is asking dockhands if they saw "an academic with a brown case" in the last two days. |
| 8 | A mechanic is repairing a winch and singing quietly. The song is the same pitch as the chamber harmonic. |
| 9 | The harbor master is unavailable. His deputy refuses to explain why. The harbor log for the last week has a page stuck together. |
| 10 | A small child is selling maps. The maps show a building where there is currently a garden. The garden is new. |
NPC encounter (d8)
| d8 | Who |
|---|---|
| 1 | A recently discharged company soldier who knows the estate guard rotation. |
| 2 | A fishing village elder who will trade local history for a favor that cannot be named in the harbor. |
| 3 | A Church novice who was assigned to copy a sealed document and did not understand what it said but remembers it perfectly. |
| 4 | A factor's clerk who has been keeping a private log of every anomalous event for eighteen months. |
| 5 | A retired Valdegracian officer who knows exactly what the naval station's real orders are and thinks they were wrong. |
| 6 | A ship's cook who saw the fire and saw who was not surprised by it. |
| 7 | An engineer from off-island hired for one job: certify that last month's yield figures are accurate. She cannot. |
| 8 | A local merchant who has been supplying the estate for thirty years and noticed when the basement access was sealed. |
Chamber phenomena (d6)
| d6 | Phenomenon |
|---|---|
| 1 | A compass needle rotates one full revolution and returns to north. Deviation: none after. Cause: none identified. |
| 2 | A tool left on the floor is warm when picked up. No heat source nearby. The warmth is pleasant. |
| 3 | A low tone, below speech, is audible for approximately four seconds. The walls show faint luminous traces that match the harmonic's frequency. |
| 4 | A door handle is cold regardless of ambient temperature. Touching it produces a brief visual: a room below this room. |
| 5 | A window glass shows a reflection that is delayed by approximately two heartbeats. |
| 6 | The floor pattern brightens fully for one second, dims, then repeats in a slower rhythm. Resa calls this "the chamber checking." |
Faction moves (d6, per faction)
| d6 | Move |
|---|---|
| 1 | A faction asset moves to observe the characters directly. |
| 2 | A faction transmits information about the characters to their home base. An order is incoming. |
| 3 | A faction makes contact with a local NPC the characters have also spoken to. |
| 4 | A faction advances a clock directly; an event occurs that the characters did not cause. |
| 5 | A faction offers the characters a deal through an intermediary. The deal is genuine; the terms are not what they appear. |
| 6 | A faction loses an asset. The characters did not cause it. Another faction did. The losing faction will not know that immediately. |
